Lebanese of Kurdish origins, Issa Hassan was born in Lebanon in 1970. He moved to Paris in 1984 to develop his talent and his love for music, singing and dance. He picked the bazouk, a lute with a long Kurdish and Gypsy sleeve as his instrument of predilection. With its mountainous sonority, crystallin and sparkling, the bazouk paints musical frescoes from the Oriental coasts of the Mediterranean. More than an instrument, Issa Hassan made it part of himself, a ramification that shows his origins and travels.
Hassan Issa is an autodidact and a virtuoso, as one can tell from his hybrid creations mixing the patrimonial Kurdish repertoire and his own music. He invites us on a trip to discover oriental music in order to better apprehend contemporaneity and tradition. It is while listening to his symphonies that we share with Issa Hassan the beauty of his peregrinations.
