One of Morocco’s great soloists, Abderrahim Souiri was trained by Abdel Krim Raïs of the Fès school, as well as Temsamani of the Tétouan school. He is the son of a muezzin from Essaouira, chief chorister of a Judeo-Arabo-Andalusian orchestra, and never received any formal musical training in a music school. He learned to chant the Koran in the zâwiya before becoming one of the most sought-after vocalists in the country and winning various prizes for his performances.
