Under the leadership of Cheikh Abderrahman ben Mahmoud, the virtuosos belonging to the Tunisian brotherhood Al Sulâmiyya open one of Maghreb’s most rich and popular repertoire. The multi-talented instrumentalists and choristers of the brotherhood use here the traditional percussions, as the great drums bendîr; the naggarât-timbals played with a stick; and the târ, small drums with small cymbals; in order to carry their singing in a powerful way. Their songs are inspired, religious and expressive but also therapeutic. They invite us to a collective and cyclic release, to relieve the souls metaphysically, and the bodies physically.
